Stanislaw Paskiewicz

In the Spring of 1994, skippers Miroslaw Witek and Pawel Duszczyk sailed their newly-purchased boat from Florida to Chicago.

April, 1994 marked the celebration of our 25th anniversary of JCYC at the Waukegan Yacht Club. Our honorary guests were: Chairman of the Polish Yachting Assn. Ludwig Vogt and Secretary Zbigniew Stosio. Our honorary members were: Captains Richard Konkolski, Henryk Jaskuła, Ludomir Mączka, also Captain Krzysztof Baranowski, chief editor of the sailing magazine “Żagle”, Jerzy Fijka, also Captain Roman Paszke. On that occasion, the following were honored as „Zasłużony Działacz Żeglarstwa Polskiego”: Andrew W. Piotrowski, Stanisław Paskiewicz, Bogumiła Kosina, and Jacek Giergiel. Isidore Ryzak was awarded a medal for meritorious service toward Polish sailing (Szczególne Zasługi dla Żeglarstwa Polskiego). We had a reception with the commodore at the Columbia Yacht Club. The next edition of “Polskie Żagle w Chicago” celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Club was published.

In the Polish Museum of America in Chicago, during its remodeling, due to the efforts of club members, a permanent exposition dedicated to the JCYC and its patron, Joseph Konrad Korzeniowski was installed.

In August 1994, for the invitation of the Polish Sailing Center, two Polish sailing ships: „Zawisza Czarny” and „Pogoria” visited Chicago. Finally, we initiated the first annual race on Lake Michigan, called the „Race for the Commodore’s Gold Button”.

In the Spring of 1994, the 28 ft. yacht „Mirage”, which was built over a period of 5 years on the base of the wreck, was launched by Kazimierz Potocki. Over 15 years „Mirage” has taken part in all the races organized through JCYC, many times with success.

June 1994. Andrzej Piotrowski (Solidarity) and Artur Zebrowski (Star) took 3rd place in their classes in single handed race from Port Huron to Mackinac Island.

July 1994 Chicago – Mackinac Race, Leszek Ziółkowski (Explorer) with crew from our club participates. Also Stanisław Paskiewicz (Star) and Andrzej Zoleński (Winn) took part in Hook race. Group racing excursions to Racine, South Haven, St. Joseph and Michigan City were organized.

Unfortunatly commodore Stanislaw Paskiewicz has passed away while we were working on our new website and we didn't have a chance to ask him to contribute to the book of commodores. This sad circumstance help us realize that we don't have all the time in the world, we only have NOW.
